Thursday All-Day Hunt

For my last day I decided to pull a sun-up till sun-down from the Box stand. This is the same stand I saw that big buck in yesterday. I packed a sandwich and a bottle of water and left instructions with Kent not to pick me up unless I call him from my cell. I climbed into the stand well before light and waited for dawn. Fifteen minutes before it was light enough to shoot a nice buck moved under my stand and began to feed. He was joined by other bucks and does. He looked real nice, but I had a very difficult time making out his horns. I turned on my video camera and filmed him using infrared. He was a nice, trophy buck but he moved off before I could ethically shoot.

For the next 12 hours I sat in that stand and watched a variety of small deer move in and out of the area. I never saw a shooter the entire day. As the sun set, my 2005 deer hunt was over. It was another great hunt, filled with great bucks, close calls, frustration and weather swings as much as 50 degrees! As it turned out, my best opportunity presented itself the very first morning when I passed up those two nice bucks. I have no regrets, I got to experience 6 days of bowhunting in some of the greatest whitetail areas in the country. I'm already looking forward to next season.

Ron Baxley had an exciting afternoon hunt in a new stand. He saw a huge 9 point and ended up taking a PY 10 with some stickers with a perfect heart shot. It was a great way to end his hunt.

Tune in tomorrow for another update

Our Kansas bowhunt takes place in Southwest Kansas with Cimarron River Outfitters.
