Summary - 2021 Food Plot Seed Review
My first experience managing my new property in Ohio has been amazing. I identified 58 rack bucks with 5 shooters over 150 and a conservative estimate of 200 deer on my 130 acres in the winter. I saw more bucks in one week at my property in Ohio than I did after ten years in New York. And my smallest shooter buck was 20" bigger than my biggest buck ever in New York.
What a difference a well run deer program can make. It was thrilling.
My plots came up exceptionally well this year including my row crops, my brassicas and my perennials. I did not experience a single crop failure. Sure it was a lot of work, but I love it and can't wait to get started again this spring.
I learned a lot and made a bunch of mistakes. Look for our next feature where I'll outline what I did wrong and what I'll do different next year.
I never shot a buck. I held out for 5 particular bucks that I identified early and were regularly visiting my property. Hunting pressure during the season pushed those mature bucks nocturnal, and I certainly contributed to that behavior. I expected the rut to be off the charts, unfortunately it was a disappointment. The late season was amazing, however but my shooter bucks vanished.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this season a 10. It was that good.
