This was the second trip we took bear hunting in Quebec with Russell Outdoor Guides. The Matigouche Refuge is huge (approx. 600 square miles) and the scenary is beautiful. The bait sites are spread out over the entire park so we never hunted close to another hunter. This is a true North Woods experience and gives new meaning to the word remote. Everyone in camp saw multiple bears and everyone in camp harvested a bear with archery equipment. There are large mature boars at Mastigouche due to the tremendous acreage and light hunting pressure. We were also able to fish for native speckled trout on one of the hundreds of remote/pristine lakes on Mastigouche.
It was great hunting with you guys. You Virginia boys are some very serious bear/bow hunters. I hope to hunt with you all again soon.
Weather was mild. Mostly sunny and 70 - 80 degrees.
