I scheduled a 6 day mule deer hunt with Graham Brigden Outfitting in Alberta. I filled my tag on the first day with a 180 class mulie. Graham has two areas to hunt - one on the north and one on the south sides of Cypress Hills Provincial Park. I spent one night at Graham’s place on the north side in route to my hunt on the south side with Blaine Walburger; a rancher/guide that works for Graham. Graham’s facilities are new and very comfortable. The food was excellent and the whole group was fun to be around. Blaine has been guiding for years and he really knows his business. His place is not fancy but yet very comfortable and he and his wife (Susan) made me feel right at home. Although they have had many bowhunters, I was their first traditional shooter. I was very impressed with their reluctance to take me on - only because they wanted to insure that I wouldn’t be disappointed in the prairie type hunting they offered. That says volumes about their integrity and honesty. Blaine’s spotting and stalking skills are outstanding and he takes great pride in spotting a deer the hunter would be happy with - and then getting you in close enough for the shot. That is exactly what Blaine did for me and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. I have no reservation about recommending Graham Brigden Outfitting! Dale Thurman
Well , it was certainly a pleasure helping out Dale with a trophy mule deer archery hunt . Yes, he was our first ever traditional hunter and we were a little nervous. This is pretty open country and stalking to within 20 yrds on the ground can be a little bit of a challenge to say the least . My guides concern was being able to hide the longbow when you get in tight . I have full confidence in my guides abilities to stalk these prairie muleys but we always want our hunters to know what kind of challenges they will have on their hunt . Well , Dale came very prepared and knew the hunt may not be easy . Then everything came together on the first day of his hunt . Dale has excellent shooting abilities and this really paid off when he capitalized on his first oppertunity at a giant trophy mule deer . Dale is first class as a hunter and as a person and we would love to have him back on a hunt again. Graham Brigden
