I do not recommend this outfitter

This was a horrible and expensive experience!! This was a 5 day hunt with myself, 2 sons and a friend. I talked to Matt for months and he said there were bears everywhere. He stated most hunters killed 2 bears the first day. We understand hunts are not guaranteed but add in all the problems we had with these people was bad!! We never saw a bear or any signs of bears. They put us in a camp that the "guide" said was a pack in camp and that he knew NOTHING about bear hunting. We could not eat the food there as the "cook" had his dogs in the kitchen with him..they would eat out of his hand and then he would go back to cooking....touching everything. We drove 80 miles round trip to get a meal. The young men that were at the camp were nice and tried to help but they didn't know how...and they admitted that. The owner TIM came to the camp the 4th day and was the rudest person we have ever seen....a real JERK! I have his whole conversation with us on video...anybody wanna see!! I would NEVER recommend this outfitter to anyone. I went to Canada on a hunt 2 week later and got a 6 ft bear the second day...Hasting Brothers Outfitters were awesome!! After u kill you bear you walleye fish...awesome hunt and awesome time there. Anyone wanting any information please feel free to contact me any time...lots more to the story

Was the outfitter notified of problems? - YES

Outfitter's Response
Disagree

I disagree with the review from jim thornton.First of all this group drove 200 miles out of their way to get to the camp. They drove right by the camp.Guess they cannot read instructions very well. This made them mad from the get go.This hunt is a baited bear hunt with horses and tree stands. They new this coming in.Two of the four hunters refused to sit in a tree stand.Did not like to ride horses to baits, only 20 - 30 minute ride. They would not stay in bait site until dark so had to have two guides sit with them several nights on the ground. It was the first hunt with 13 bait sites with 7 hitting very good and the rest being bumped. We anticipated a very good hunt but with half of them on the ground and not staying until dark we cut our odds right away. They were always playing with their phones and gadgets while hunting. When i arrived to introduce myself the one son of jim's started screaming at me and poking me in the chest.Never did get to shake his hand.Of course this made me mad .Finally the other son of jim's calmed his brother down and him and i went and talked in the cook hall. All was settled and the hunt went on.Jim called his wife the second day and complained and she called my answering service and left a message. So matt called her back and she screamed at him for 20 minutes on the phone. He had to hang up on her it was that bad. This group just talked about high fence hunting and big box blinds. They should have booked a ranch hunt.My guides including the cook did not have dogs in kitchen and did all they could to please these guy's.They said it was the worst group they have had.Bitched and complained all the time .As we all know you cannot please everyone.Jim did not let us know about his concerns.First we knew was on your site.Thank you.Tim
