2011 will be 4th year with Winterhawk drop camp. Took Elk 1rst year and have had great hunts with many close encounters last 2 years with Bull Elk within 20 yards on several occasions with no kill shot opportunity's. I have not seen large herds of Elk but have always found plenty of Bulls to chase around some of the most beautiful country you will ever see. Many passed opportunity on cow Elk. Larry , Laura and folks at Winterhawk are first rate as well as their camps, horses and mules. Although taking a Bull is not my measure of a successful bow hunt have been fortunate to see some impressive animals at close range. If you are prepared to hunt hard this is a great outfitter. They will put you on game the rest is up to you.

Have hunted 3rd archery week 3 years. Crisp cold evenings and mornings- can get hot mid day to tee shirts to freezing at dark. Brief snow 1-2 inches. Will be Hunting 4th week this year expect colder temps and possible snow accumulations. Mountain thermals are biggest issue in this area. Wind changes constantly trying to get above tree line. Weather can be severe but we have avoided it. Camps are 9-11,000 feet in some areas so condition exist for changing conditions.
