This hunt was bad from the beginning. We were sold on a 2 on 1 hunt. When we got to camp we discovered there were two other hunters were also sold a 2 on 1 hunt. Steve was extremely lazy and hunted the same spots daily. The area was obviously over hunted and the hunt was drastically over promised. We were also told of the numerous "shooter" mule deer he had. During the week we didn't have one opportunity at a nice mule deer. If you are thinking about hunting with Steve Byers, DONT DONT DONT. There are plenty of good outfitters out there, do somewhere else. He will tell you what you want to hear. Reality is different. With all this being said, I did get a shot at a bull elk on the last day of the hunt, however it was without Steve even there guiding me. He had another newer guide who was with us (he was excited and worked hard for me). Unfortunutely I didn't recover the animal, but that was my fault for making a poor shot. The fact that I didn't kill the elk is in no way skewing my thoughts on this outfitter. I would honestly feel the same way if I killed a 340inch bull. There is a ton of information on Steve on the interet, do a google search. A lot of people have had bad experiences with him. He is also trying to start up another Whitetail operation in Kansas, STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!
