I do not recommend this outfitter

Don't waste your time with booking a back wilderness hunt with boulder creek outfitters. Call the fish and wildlife first then you will get the whole truth. I'm sure that in the past the area was very good but now the elk count is down very bad. Don't believe what Tim tells you believe what the fish and wildlife tells you. I think that the hunt was a scam and that Tim has to book because of his lease as per the person that guided us. Clint Hill

Outfitter's Response
Disagree

I disagree.Bill Mathews booked this hunt as a semi guided hunt with his partner. Our semi guided hunts are 2700.00 versus 4000.00 for a full guided hunt. They are supposed to have four hunters but only came up with two and we could not fill the other two spots. So Mr.Mathews got a full guided hunt for a semi guided price. On the semi guided hunts they are supposed to help out in camp and hunt on their own half of the time. The Plane Mr.Mathews flew in on had two clients with two very nice bulls, one over 300 points come out. These two clients just spent 7 days in the same area Mr.Mathews was going into and had bull’s bugle everyday.Bill Mathews sent me numerous emails throughout the summer complaining about his partner and not wanting to come on this trip. One email he was nice the next email he was nasty. It went back and forth for months. He even cancelled at one point. His partner was a very nice fellow.Bill Mathews had a bad attitude from the get go.The only hunted three days and wanted out. They seen a very big bull one day but could not get to it in time.I have operated in this area for 31 years now.He mentions the wolves as the issue but that was not the case whatsoever.Wolves are everywhere in the west now.We have learned to hunt around them over the years. No wolves were ever seen. Our 2009 archery elk season was the best we have had in 6 years.Over 50% success. That is high to anybody’s standards in a wilderness area. Of all the clients I have dealt with over 31 years Bill Mathews takes the cake.Impossible to work with.Other Outfitters beware.Do not book this man.You will be sorry.Tim Craig

Weather Information

Weather Comments:
Yes the weather was hot but you have to see tracks and crap to know that there is elk in the area. We traveled 50 plus miles in four days and with the country that we were seeing witch was wide open we should have been able to glass elk off in a distance. The area I'm sure in the past was very productive.
