I do not recommend this outfitter

This is a wild story from a long time ago. The only reason I am doing this is because I figured the ol' dude "Gill" would certainly not be alive in 2009 to take peoples money. We booked this whitetail hunt through a broker in AL that claimed this part of NB had huge deer. So we get to camp and hunt for 4 days and never saw a single deer. The 'guide' whom was a young local trapper broke down and begged us to not say a word to his boss as he would lose his job, but that the deer numbers in NB are so low in that area that people hardley ever see one. Mostly due to poaching , which is legal for the native americans that live in the area. The food was aweful, the lodge (trailer) was fair. THIS GUY IS A BEAR OUTFITTER AND NOTHING MORE! We hunted from bear stands that still had the bait barrels at them and could only see 20 yards at best. FOR BEARS THIS IS AN OK OUTFITTER BUT DO NOT GET SUCKERED INTO A DEER HUNT. To make matters worse, when we first arrived in camp "Gill" said that he had not received my final payment. Well I had sent it over a month earlier but thought well it got lost. So I wrote him a check for another $500 and didnt think twice about it. When I got home BOTH checks had been cashed. It took me over 3 months to get my $500 back , and only after I threatened him by sending a letter from my lawyer. Just be cautious when dealing with this Frenchman.

Was the outfitter notified of problems? - YES

Outfitter's Response
Disagree

29 August 1996 l Gil owner operator black bear lodge had an heart attack and was laid up for three months when Jason check came in one of my guide deposit it to the Bank and did not record it in our book.. l never received a letter from a lawyer before returning his money. l remember Jason and his friend show up for deer hunting in expensive winter clothing that would have been good hunting clothing for polar bear in the north Pole. Still hunting was a big challenge due to their clothing's, why didn't they say something to me at the time. waiting for me to be dead before he voice your displeasure. I'm very much alive and still guiding and l would like to tell you Jason. As A hunter you have the choice to choose your outfitter. we do not have the choice to select our hunters the bookings was done by someone else. we do have big bucks in New Brunswick they don't get big by being stupid and we normally hunt them still hunting when the condition are right and from stands when they are not. from what my guide told me your hunting techniques were not appropriate for our environments and certainly your equipments was not appropriate either for still hunting or from stands. last and not least l am a French speaking Canadian and not a Flipping Frenchmen and one more thing there is always two side to a coin l appreciate the chance of speaking my side of the events. thank you and god bless. Gil
