I have been on about 15 guided hunts throughout the United States and this was my first trip out of the country. By far this was the best guided hunt that I have been on. I have already worked out a deal with my wife to allow me to go back and I plan to do that very soon.
Mike takes care of everything for you so that all you need to do is get there. I flew to Edmonton and drove to his house so I could see the country. One thing I really enjoyed was the way Mike has his website set up that answeres a lot of the questions that people have as well having pictures showing how he operates his bear hunts.
Everyone in camp was very friendly and Mike was very informative about the bears and taught us a lot. His guides were extremely helpful and assisted in anything you needed. My guide was Shane and he did an excellent job. His tracking skills were the best I have ever seen. After I was finished with my hunt, I sat with my Dad to film his hunts and the way the stands are built this makes it easy.
I hunted six afternoon hunts and I saw sixteen different bears that I could confirm were different bears. I shot a nice boar (220#, 18 1/2" skull, and 7 3/4" hide) on my first hunt. I shot another way bigger bear but hit it high and it got away. Mike has sent me pics of it on the trail cameeras and he is doing well.
Three of the hunts I had to call the guide within an hour of being dropped off to come help get/track a bear. I'm sure I would have seen more bears if I had sat out there the entire time. Seeing this many bears thrilled me greatly.
I have nothing but positive stuff to say about Mike's Outfitting. Since you are staying at his house (part of his house is sectioned off for the hunters) his wife and kids make you feel like part of the family which was great.
Again, great food, lots of bears, being welcomed by his family.......what more could one want in a hunt?
Feel free to contact me for a reference.
None to date. If you are the outfitter please email us.
Low in the 50s and the 70s while on stand. Some afternoons it would cloud up and become windy but I never saw rain. Some in camp got a shower but not where I was.
