The "Excellent" ratings that I have given are a reflection of the overall experience of the hunt and not based solely on the fact that I was able to harvest a respectable buck. This was my first visit to Magna Vista Plantation, although I've hunted very nearby with another outfitter along the Mississippi River many times. Magna Vista offers bow-only hunts limited to four hunters per week, which I believe directly resulted in my seeing many unpressured deer (approximately 50 from the stands in 3 days), even in early January. Poor weather one day severely limited movement, as occurs anywhere, but this outfitter and their guide worked hard to give us the opportunity to harvest a good deer. Comfortable housing, great habitat, plentiful deer, good stands properly set, and limited hunting. Food was optional-we fed ourselves to save money. Exactly what I was looking for in an outfitted hunt. Only now will I mention that I shot a mature buck (4 1/2-5 1/2) with a few broken points (late season) at 10 yards. He had 21" beams and was 17 1/2" wide. Will be a regular visitor to Magna Vista from now on.
