Mdc fails on here management and age structure.
I hunt other states where I regularly see better and more bucks. To many bucks killed. 3 a year per hunter. Less bucks harvested means more bucks to 5 yrs. If one wants to kill more deer shoot does.
see plenty of mature deer but we have a mid november rifle season which hurts our mature buck population.
Mike Prete (nonresident)
Been hunting there 7 years. Lots of big bucks in the western region. Low pressure. Good overall numbers
Jackson Basler (resident)
Way too many young deer killed. I hate seeing people post pictures of spikes and 4 pointers. Let them grow and wait till they are at least 7 or 8 pointers or bigger...
Tyler Mausbach (resident)
Saw more mature deer this year than any of the last 10 years. Public land in Columbia was well kept and had more tracks on it than i could make sense of.
Brett myers (resident)
Too many hunters killing small bucks and does not letting them grow
Chad Hinds (resident)
With all the outbreak of “blue tongue” and CWD, it seems a lot of the deer have vanished. Doesn’t help with Missouri now allowing individuals to use cross bows which means there are a lot more hunters
Shawn johnson (resident)
I see a lot of deer in the field. Lots of small bucks. Lots of nice bucks. Problem isn't with the deer or Management. It's with all the unethical hunters trespassing, stealing, and poaching.
Aaron Flynn (resident)
Way to many seasons gun season right in the middle of the rut Is really stupid. Plus we need to be a lottery state. The conservation is just making it so easy to kill deer especially now with crossbow
John Doe (resident)
Gun season "tradition" takes precedent over good management decisions.
Michael Dane (resident)
Nice buck's good management
Joseph Lamkins (resident)
I rarely shoot deer. I just love being in the deer woods, however the deer I do see are top notch and plentiful
Dan Younger (resident)
I'm in the city local management hunt and this year is the best in several years
John Krewson (nonresident)
Hunted here for Forty Years i have watched it steadily decline the last couple years very dissapointed with the MDC all this money New equipment buying property declining herd
Tony Kalna Jr. (resident)
We have great habitat and plenty of deer. For the most part we are our own deer managers. We can choose whether or not to pass that 1.5 or 2.5 year old buck, or shoot that doe. Our MDC is incredible
Cory Hagerman (resident)
To many hunters killing more deer than necessary to fill there freezer. No one needs 5 plus deer
Chad William Bogenpohl (resident)
Not many bucks around, seldom many mature bucks either.
Mo's management is head and shoulders above Arkansas's. Wish they would eliminate the 4 point rule and limit doe harvest for a while to bring some balance back
Paul Kostelecky (nonresident)
Great youth Hunts - need to allow more doevtags. Protect the young bucks better. It works
Habitat for Wildlife (nonresident)
Take rifle season out of the rut and MO would be much better. Not realistic though given herd size, rifle hunters are needed to control the numbers. The state has reduced buck allotment to two.
Matt Taylor (resident)
Rifle season during peak of rut, needs to be moved to first weekend in December. Need a draw system for out of state hunters. Way to easy to get a tag in MO.
Jason Herron (resident)
Mark Wing (resident)
We still gun hunt during the rut.
Jake Ehlinger (nonresident)
I hunted MO my first time this year, great deer numbers and high quality bucks.
NR's make up 33% of responses so far. Had to offset the inflated grade with a dose of reality from a lifelong resident. Rifle in rut, 2 bucks annually, OTC tags, brown its down mentality by most.
Anthony Kickham (resident)
Too low non-residence fees, reduce rifle season to two weekends, Limit amount of non buck tags. Take the same management of IL and Iowa. Would produce many more mature quality bucks for residents.
Live in antler restricted county. Seeing lots of bucks a lot bigger then 10-15 years ago.
Chad Searcey (resident)
We manage our farms using QDMA principles. We only shoot mature (4.5 yrs old or older) bucks only. Unfortunately our state has rifle season during the peak of the rut. Too many immature bucks killed
didn't see the numbers expected but what I saw they were mature deer
Ive seen a lot of good deer taken this year.
Jeff taylor (resident)
Seen a lot of good deer
T S (resident)
Deer numbers are still way down. MDC needs to figure it out. Hopefully they will rebound in the next couple years.
Ted Wawrzyniak (nonresident)
Everything I have seen indicates that the state sees deer as an asset and manages tonhiter desires and sound biological principles
Erik Hendricks (nonresident)
Deer numbers are still rebounding from EHD.
Harry Hionweed (nonresident)
State needs to regulate Outfitters, they are a cancer to many good areas in Northern MO. Running way to many guys. It will be just like MN with only forks and 6 pointers for sightings in 5 years!
State needs to move rifle season to later in the month of November. Have youth Season earlier in the season along with getting crossbows out of Archery season unless disabled.
Mason untiedt (resident)
Depending on where you live in the state can drastically change the size in mature bucks
Koby Linder (resident)
Philip Perry (nonresident)
Did a guided week out of Macon, MO, saw lots of deer, absolutely no quality bucks. Largest buck sighted 140”, unfortunately I was hunting a 150” minimum farm.
MDC does a good job on youth hunts but I don’t agree with the mass CWD killings by the state.
Brett Nauerth (resident)
I hate how rifle season is in the middle of the rut. I believe if they move rifle season to October or December it would increase the number of giant bucks killed.
Clint Morrow (nonresident)
I don't understand why the peak of the rut is during rifle season. Otherwise, Missouri was good to us in 2017.
George Winkler (resident)
Plenty of deer but age and size of bucks could use a bump by moving rifle season out of the rut. They are overboard with the CWD thing but they do things right when it comes to the youth season.
Roger Carpenter (nonresident)
Good herd and see lots of deer
Ed Fassler (resident)
My farm holds on average about six decent mature bucks....every outing results in several sightings of deer from either blind or stand....several cameras indicate a solid population of deer
CWD problems have led to massive kills by state not sure if it will change anything I guess they are trying.
Been going to NW Missouri for 5 years and it is now much better than Pike County, Ill and Wisconsin. I went to Pike County for 15 years.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the state. Not enough room here to get into it. I graded Bs because we still have a rifle season in the rut.
