This was my first, and so far only bear hunt with hounds, so I have little to compare it to. Was provided a half-cabin all to myself (could sleep four) with kitchen and shower. Every morning we'd awaken around 4:30am and meet at 5:30 to go out for the morning. Each truck had two hunters and 6-7 dogs (Plott hounds, a favorite of FMGS apparently). These dogs seemed good at what they do, and their handlers seemed quite competent. The entire hunt was quite exciting and physically taxing, so if you're not in shape, start exercising. Most days the dogs would get a "strike", finding a bear, but we were turned back at least twice because the bear was a momma with cubs. We almost never got false strikes, or had dogs chasing the wrong animal, so kudos to the dog trainers. It was a great hunt, so why did I mark "not recommended"? In 2020, the hound hunt was a solid value, but since has gone up dramatically in price. The hunt over bait requires the hunter to transport him/herself to the stand, which seems like a self-guided hunt at a fully-guided price.
Was the outfitter notified of problems? - NO
Our hound hunts are a great hunt here in the state of Maine. We pride ourselves in taking mature bear and let the smaller ones go. Our price has changed since 2020 do to better accomodations we now offer.
