Roosevelt elk hunt near Mount St. Helens Toledo Washington. Mike uses apples to draw the elk out of the jungle and it really is a jungle. Hunt started on Tuesday after Labor Day. Four bulls killed the first night including one by Mike Vaugn's eleven year old son And I shot a 5x4. Two more hit on Wednesday but one bull not recovered that was shot by a crossbow hunter. On Thursday and Friday unusual thunderstorm with massive rain and lightening pretty much stopped action. Weekend was slow with hunters complaining of hearing other hunters on surrrounding propertis slamming car doors and blowing elk calls. Three new hunters came in on monday as we were leaving including Washinton's lieutenant governor who is an avid bowhunter. He got a 4x4 the first night and another elk was also killed. All in all a lot of action for Rosies. A few blacktails were seen but no shots at mature bucks by anyone. One guy who was after the super slam killed a real nice 6x6. Camp itself is outdoor portapotty and shower with mess tent.
