We just returned from another incredible (our 4th) Black Bear hunt with Ken and Linda Buxton (K&L Outfitters)in Dorintosh, Saskatchewan.
The lodging, food, equipment used to transport us to/from the bush each day were second to none. Linda provides 3 'from scratch' meals daily -served family style. A hunter never leaves her table feeling hungry.
Weather was unbelievable; with low temps barely reaching mid 40's and daily hight hovering in the 70's (it almost reached 90 one day).
The hunt was excellent, with numerous "mature shooter" bears seen daily. Obvious question is why was I unsuccessful - the reason is 'by choice'. I vowed to hold out for a bear >350# and while I saw several that pushed the 30)# mark, none where what I wanted.
Millie (Lady Bowhunter) was hunting 'color', having already taken a couple of P/Y and a B/C bear in previous years. She saw P/Y bears, but all were black.
We did have two extremely happy hunters in our group; one connected with a boar that tipped the scales at over 375# with a skull over 20"; another took a nice 275# boar his first 'bow bear' which should easily exceed P/Y entry standards.
I've seen Ken process bears for transportation - he's got it down to a science. Skinning, salting, packing freezing hides and skulls for transportation. Degradation of hides has NEVER been a problem.
Would I recommend Ken and Linda? Yes, in fact we're already booked to return next year - same week and are counting the days..
None to date. If you are the outfitter please email us.
