Around the 15th of November this past season, and I called my buddy Jerry Cahill at Whitetails Only LLC to see how his clients did thru out the rut weeks of November. He gave me the specs and I must admit I was a bit disheartened. It seems as though I had just driven all over the Midwest wasting however much money to kill a nice bow Buck while Jerry's clients are seeing pig after pig in Southern Ohio. Long story short, I believe Jerry recognized my low esteem and informed me that he had some room in camp for a few days leading up to Thanksgiving, and that if I wanted to come up, he could pretty much guarantee me a shot at a pretty nice buck. By gosh, I don't know if he tied this joker up to the tree behind camp or what but sure enough when I landed in the Ohio deer woods along side of Jerry, it was like the flood gates opened and there were mature bucks rolling out from every which direction. In just the first 3 days of the hunt I saw 5 bucks in the 130 plus range with the best being a solid 160" 10pt. I ended up sticking this upper 140's 10pt with split g2s.. And believe it or not, I pulled the jawbone from this guy and he is a text book 3yr old!! When I saw this, I was fairly irritated with myself for shooting one of Jerry's up and comers but I told Jerry to look at the brightside, if his 3yr old bucks are pushing 150" can you imagine them at 5yrs old??!! Well, long story short, that was the best spent money I've thrown down on an outfitted hunt in a long time. I will most definitely be returning to Jerry's outfit next season as long as Jerry will have me!! (And PS, Once you kill a buck Jerry makes for a great photographer upon recovering the buck!!)
