Hunter Comments
I do not recommend this outfitter

No real directions to the camp house was given until arriving in Illinois. Directions were then phoned into me when I arrived at the airport. The first day at the camp we checked in. No dinner was provided, the new hunters provided for themselves or had to eat leftovers that were in the fridge. Not a friendly welcome, others mentioned the same thing. The first day of the hunt I was dropped off to a stand that was 50ft off the road. Within a half hr another hunter, not from the camp started to set up a ground blind 50 yards from my stand, the morning hunt was blown. I called my guide, he moved me to another stand. The guide put out the least amount of effort I have ever seen. All the guides drove the hunters to the stands and dropped them off. Most of the time they did not exit the trucks. At no time did my guide explain or discuss the hunt to or from the stands. I stayed on stand all day except for the last day when I came in for lunch. Guide is a relative term too. The camp has a 140inch minimum for shooters. I did not see one 140 inch class deer all week, nor did most of the other hunters. None of the 14 hunters in the camp when I was there killed a trophy deer. The outfitter did allow you to shoot mature 8 pointers if you wanted, but I did not travel to Illinois to shoot an 8 pointer. I was told by the outfitter later in the week that the farmers have been harvesting the corn on this property and have been plowing the standing corn into the ground for the last few years. This has decreased the amount of trophy class deer significantly. I think that bit of information or problem should have been taken care of before they let hunters book the hunt. The camp advertised great meals, I guess the term great is relative. Hamburgers smothered in canned tomatoes isnt great to me, but I did eat it. Most mornings I just ate instant oatmeal. I eat my protein bars and shake on stand (That saved the day for sure, I lost 5lbs at camp). I shared a room which was no problem. They did not heat the house at night. I had to sleep with back warmers to be comfortable. The bathroom was across the house so when taking a shower you had to cross through the kitchen and dinning room. There is no way I would return to this camp. And until they can improve the relationship with the farmers I can not see booking with Carter Outdoors.
