I've hunted at the Boneyard before many times for wild turkey and last year for whitetail, so I brought my 14-year old son on his first Southern Illinois deer hunt. The lodge and home-cooked meals were off the hook, and the 4-day was an absolute blast. Other hunters in camp included some boys from Arkansas and Dave Watson from Matthews TV was filming an episode for his show on the Outdoor Network. They got a big 12 pointer on film the first day, which really set the tone for an exciting hunt. I passed up a lot of 120-130 bucks waiting for the big one. I didn't kill a giant buck, but both me and my son went home with meat in the cooler. As during the first half of the season, mother nature was just not cooperating. It was unseasonably warm, windy and a full moon on top of that. We changed tactics and started hunting mid-day and that's when we saw and shot most of our deer. Of the 4 hunters in my group, we shot 7 deer (out of 8 tags), so 3 of us tagged out. The camp is kid-friendly, a great place to take a kid on his first deer hunt. We're going back in the spring to chase longbeards with a bow.
