Hunter Comments
I recommend this outfitter

My experience started with a different outfitter in the Wind River Range out of Dubois Wy. It was an unsuccessful rifle hunt with limited or no food, and a guide that woke up at 8 am on the last day of the hunt and a spike tent nights on ice and snow. I fell in love with that town though and the following spring I called the outfitter to book a bowhunt without a response. Lucky me.

I searched "elk hunting Dubois Wy" With Ab of Absaroka it was first up, I inquired and Budd responded almost immediately, yes. Anyway, to explain this unsuccessful hunt I have to tell you that the first hunt at Absaroka was in 2007, the 2012 hunt was my 5th hunt with these folks if that says anything. My success rate for the 5 years was 40%, results= two 275 class 6 points. Technically, Rod got me a shot every year/read Jim Zumbo "To Heck With Elk". Elk hunting as taught to me by Rod Eyring is unlike anything I had ever known. It is indeed addictive.

At 53 yrs. old these memories are priceless, I quit drinking and put the money into elk hunting, providing almost free hunts and saving a liver.

I went from no food with one outfitter to more than I could eat. They provide a cook, heated tent or a 5 star cabin. Dave handles the logistics, tac, tips, spotting, guiding and just might be the leading expert on the Dunoir Valley, having stayed on when Budd bought the ranch 30 or so years ago. He is also the guy you call when an elk needs to go from the mountain to the meat locker. The owner Budd oversees everything, guides, spots you name it. He makes for a smooth transaction and you can bank on his word. Rod is my guide, I hit it off with him immediately. We stay in contact throughout the year. I learned a lot from him and hope to hunt with him every year till he retires.

I had the privilege to stay in their east fork camp this year, it was disappointing that the bulls were up all night and not talkin this year, but Rod and I found where mr big lives, he just avoided us rather that confront the caller. God certainly performed his magic in the Dunoir, Absaroka's nearly private semi-wilderness game preserve.

I listed this post as unsuccessful but it wasn't.
