Hunter Comments
I do not recommend this outfitter

I hunted three times with pb guide services..the last time in 2002 I decided to take my wife and 10 yr old son..I didnt know what I was getting into..mr. paul had internal issues with his guides over pay...,mike was my guide and was commenting in the truck that paul had a butcher getting paid $500 bucks a week without a license..at any rate, mike, my guide was doing nothing but complaining . I ask him if he could pick my wife first before all other hunters. He said that was fine. On the 3rd day of the hunt I ran into Paul while I was centering my rifle. After a brief comment about the gun, he ask me, "whats going on in Mikes truck" I figured that since I knew Paul from two other previous hunts and i had stayed at hes house more then one .he was asking me as a friend. It is something that forever changed the way I answer to questions. I said to Paul that Mike was talking in the truck about pay and that he was unhappy. Paul lost his cool, starting yelling for Mike, and created a tremendous show that resulted in me losing almost $4000 and packing up my wife and son and leaving. He handled that situation totally unprofessional and even after so many years I think twice before I judge whether someone is a friend or not. Paul then tried to say my son was acting up in the truck, that I had peed on somebodies tree stand along the road and Mike told him I was making him pick up my wife first. I hunted with alot of people in those three seasons and made many friends in that camp. I never posted this before because I didnt know where too. but even after I told Paul that I came here to have a good time with my wife and son and it cost me almost four grand to go there for all three of us. and I told him what I told him as a friend. He still chose to act a fool and perform a show in front of all the hunters.BEWEAR OF PAUL HE IS NOT PROFECIONAL.

Was the outfitter notified of problems? - YES

Outfitter's Response
Disagree

I would rather talk in person then send a response in an open forum, in person is how you get the facts and Mr. Padilla did not get his facts correct. The guide Mike came to me complaining about Mr. Padilla and his son. This is why I asked him what was going on in the truck. Other hunters were complaining as well. His son was jumping back and forth over the seats, knocked a scope off, so it had to be sighted in. The parents were not supervising the child at all. The only yelling I did in front of everybody was to call Mike over to talk to both of them together to rectify the situation. Mike reconvened what he had told me about complaints about his son. Yes I was upset about the fact that Mike was talking to clients about his pay and not to me.

The issue about urinating on the tree stands was brought up by another hunter. That it was not a tree stand but the road and it was Mr. Padilla urinated next to the truck when a hunter was being dropped off at his stand. It should not have bothered the bait at 50 yds in but if the bear was coming from across the road it may have waited until after dark or changed directions. I don't think Mr. Padilla would have appreciated another hunter doing that at his bait. After Mr. Padilla shot his bear it took us about 4 hours to find it. the whole time his son (who should have not been with us at all, looking for a wounded bear) was running up ahead of us stirring up leaves and the trail we were trying to track and disturbing the scent trail for the dog. When we found the bear still alive his son started to run to the bear and I had to stop him because his father was way behind us. this is a major safety issue, the child could have been mauled. I worry about people getting hurt especially a child in these situations.

The next night Mr. Padilla sat with his son in a stand to see if they could see a bear while his wife sat a few miles away in a shooting cabin. When the guide went to pick up his wife first Mr Padilla's son was playing under the shooting cabin and Mr.Padilla and his wife were in the shooting cabin? Maybe if they had stayed where they were suppose to be Mrs. Padilla would have shot a bear.

As far as Mr. Padilla leaving early he told me on Monday he may have to leave by Wednesday because of problems with his nursing home business and his mother in law was ill. And he hunted one more day after this incident and had to leave anyway.
