I do not recommend this outfitter

First I want to say that Coppers Creek outfitters is set in the best deer hunting country that I have ever been to. The accomidations and food were great and the hospitality was awsome. Beau Carlson, Derek and Tyson were great guys and ethical guides, but unfortuately that is where my positivity goes for Coppers Creek Outfitters. My hunt was from Nov. 7, 2011 until Nov. 11, 2011. On the first day of the hunt, I hunted on a hogs back and did an all day sit with no activity at all. The wind was good from my stand in the morning, but shifted mid afternoon and was kept on stand even with a bad wind. The only deer I saw on that day were deer I bumped going into the stand in the dark. The next two days were horrible weather with 40 mph winds in the morning and rain, nobody can predict that. Second and third days were evening hunts only with seeing only a 1.5 year old 6 pt. On the 4th day of the Hunt I only saw 2 does and that evening only yielded 1 small 3 pt and 4 mature does, but the wind was wrong for the stand, so you know what the deer did when they got down wind. The 5th day I saw 3 small bucks in the morning and 3 does. Midday the wind totally shifted and hit me in the back of the head, leaving me nothing in the afternoon. I attempted to contact Beau when the wind shifted but got no response because he was to busy cutting corn to move me for the last evening. Not harvesting an animal is part of the sport and not the most important thing to me, but I did expect to see good deer numbers and more than 1.5 year olds. Only on one stand did I see signs of mature bucks (rubs, large scrape, and tracks). Beau is very knowledgable about his properties, but not about stand placement or where deer are actually funneling out to feed. Almost every stand set up I was in my approach was walking down a main deer trail to get in stand. Beau is a great guy, but his knowledge of stand placement and use of his great pinch pts and terrain funnels are not good and that is the result of not hunting himself and taking on to many hunters at one time. Beau is a hard working farmer and is very hard to get a hard of, even prior to the hunt he didn't return my phone calls, but would only text me. During the hunt Beau still has to maintain his farm and do to that fact the hunting dedication suffers. There was an article on the wall that stated that Beau and his father started the business, not because of the love of hunting, but the resource they had to offer. Enough said. I think Coppers Creek Outfitters has great people and awsome deer hunting ground, but needs to scale down how many people he puts through camp each week and work on treestand set ups. Even though my experience was not great, I would return if I were able to book a do it yourself hunt and be able to hang my own stands for the right winds. Two men were successfull in the week with one miss and I did meet some great guys from Floriday and the New England area.
