Hunter Comments
I recommend this outfitter

This is my follow up as promised from my Bar H hunt from eight years ago. The outfit has been split up as should knowledge by anyone seeking Bar H. Code of the West outfitters represents the portion of the business used to be associated with Randy Horne, he sold his business interest to a new owner, Joe Wood. This new management is just getting going in a very tough economy so I can look the other way on certain difficulties. There were individual areas that need improvement, like securing territory a bit better. Joe managed to secure all licences and permits in place for the hunting season, but had failed to negotiate with a large camp that was uncomfortably close nearby. The "other camp" interfered greatly with actual guiding, and I feel contributed to poor success within my camp (2 out of 5 hunters got bulls, in the limited first season.) The poor success resulted in poor moral for some of the hunters. The guides however were knowledgeable and hardworking, the cook was mediocre IMO. Sanitary conditions were not upheld in the kitchen, though I had no illness and a full stomach of fairly good camp meals. Some gear/tents was in mediocre but functional repair, I'm sure COTW will rotate out gear as needed, again I understand starting off in a rough economy. Wranglers were highly competent, putting in the hours, packing out elk promptly and gear was handled carefully. The riding stock was the best lot I have seen, no accidents, or pack train wrecks occurred to my knowledge. As far as hunting goes my personal guide set me up in an effective spot that was not spoiled by the nearby camp and I harvested my bull on opening day. The actual stand location provided a fifty yard running shot which I successfully took. Other legal bulls kept coming even while field dressing my elk, I took pictures of some. Most of the staff indicated they will return in the future, a good thing. Not one person from Bar H's operation was involved that I was familiar with from eight years ago. In short I had a great hunt and will return again in the future. In the hunt picture I'm in camo, the guide Josh Hahn in tan.
