This is the 3rd year that I've hunted with Mike. The first year only 1 of the 4 hunters in our group was successful however, one hunter missed a monster and I had paid for a guaranteed hunt so I was waiting on a large animal as well.

The second year I went it was with my brother and myself. I scored on a very nice 225 pound sow with a beautiful hide!

August of 2010 was the last year that I hunted with Mike. I scored on a monster 425 pound boar at 15 steps! Again, beautiful animal with an exceptional hide and record book to boot!

The first year we were with Mike we had no idea what to expect. If you are wanting a guide to hold your hand the entire trip then look elsewhere. If you want a guide who has very active stands, understands how to hunt bears and you're willing to do some of the work yourself then look no further. Sure, my brother and I had to drag my bear out of the woods but we are also 6'5" and 300 pounds. We did not need Mike's help but he would have had we called. Mike does have you bait your own stands but again, if you think about this, it makes sense. If you're going to your stand why does Mike need to go with you? You want the bear to get used to your smell.

The only thing we did not like was the meal plan. We ate at Lorraines restaurant for the entire week and it gets old after a while. The meals were excellent but again, gets a bit old. This last time we prepared our own meals and enjoyed it much more. We saved money and had a wide variety to eat. With the full kitchen that Mike provides, you can't ask for anything more!

One last comment, 2 of my friends went a week ago and both tag bears on the 2nd night out. If you concentrate, work hard, and place your shot then you will bring home bear at Mike's.
