I do not recommend this outfitter

We booked a "drop camp" hunt with Rainbow Lake Lodge & Outfitters for the first rifle season. We were told we would be packed in 12-14 miles to our drop camp. When he packed us in, I told my dad I didnt feel like we had road more than a few miles. When I check my gps, we where 1.42 miles from trailhead. From the next ridge over, I could hear a generator running @ trailhead. I have read bad things about drop camps, and now understand why. This was a total scam. And trust me, my poor rating has nothing to do with the fact that we never saw and elk, I can except this. I would definately not recommend this outfitter to anyone and I actually have a claim through the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies against Rainbow Lake Lodge & Outfitters.

Was the outfitter notified of problems? - YES

Outfitter's Response
Disagree

This group of hunters are excatly what an outfitter does not what in their camp. Our camp site is regulated by the forest service. The other hunters who were willing to hunt did very well this year in the same location. I have responded to DORA as well and they as well as the DOW and the Forest Service agree that I filled all comittments as per contract. This group of hunters should save their money and goto a private ranch where they can be pampered the way they want. We hunt and oufit on PUBLIC land where anyone if so inclined can travel into wilderness any distance they want, regardless of where an outfitter camp may be located. As for the claim of 12 miles this is a simple lie. As advertised on website and publications our lodge is approximatly 12 miles from the highway. Our DROPCAMPS are to be packed into the wilderness several hours. We can only control a few things like the camp. I cannot control weather, animals, other hunters, or the willingness of our clients to get out and hunt. I appericate the chance to respond to this claim, but feel that this is a very un-professional way for people to complain about there travels, or for other folks to judge a business on the words of so called hard hunters.
