I recommend this outfitter

Hello fellow turkey hunters.

I have hunted wild turkeys for over 30 years so I know the thrill that all of us hard core turkey hunters are looking for. The Adobe Lodge which is ran by Skipper Duncan is a great place to hunt Rio Grande turkeys. We hunted for 3 days in April of 2010 with shotguns from the Main Camp.

I have hunted with Skipper and the Adobe lodge on two occasions. I first hunted with them back in 1998 and collected 2 fine Rios in 3 days of hunting. This past spring I returned with my friend Rick Carson and the two of us collected 3 Rios out of a possible 4 and that's only because I missed one(oops!). I did however, collect my best Rio ever(1 5/16" spurs).

Now on to the hunt:

Accomodations are second to none! The home camp is clean, the food is plentiful and delicious, and everyone from Skipper himself, to the cooks to the guides treat you as if you are family. Skipper picked us up at the airport and shuttled us into the home camp where we met up with the other hunters. Skipper and the guides all get together in the lodge and have a pre-hunt meeting to address any communication details or hunter concerns. This is a wonderful idea as an ounce of prevention os worth a pound of cure. This tells the hunter that the Outfitter and Guides want to assure the hunter that he or she has the best hunting experience possible. After that it's off to the hunt.

The guides are hard working and friendly..... they know where the turkeys are and they take you there and show you where the property lines are, give you a map, give tips, show you where to park, etc.......they are top notch!

During my hunt at least, after we were shown our hunting areas, we had access to our own vehicle to come and go as we pleased which was really convenient. This is not a canned hunt. The guides show you where the birds are and then you hunto solo and call the birds to your position for a harvest. I think this is the situation that most all of us hardcore turkey hunters crave. If you aren't having success, they will quickly move you to another area if you desire and trust me, they have lots of good ground.

There are plenty of turkeys that are willing to cooperate with the hunters too! The beauty of South Texas is something that is burned into my memory forever. On our hunt alone, 8 hunters collected a total of fourteen birds. One took three; four took two; three took one (which could have been improved if it were not for MY missed shot). Our group took spurs up to 1 1/2"!

Evenings in camp were spent stuffing ourselves full of delicious food and snacks, watching T.V, sitting around the fire pit, and snoozing. On the last night, they even make you a special steak dinner over an open fire pit. DELICIOUS! You didn't have to worry about your turkeys because the guides will cape and prepare your trophy for you to take home as you wish.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot... it rained for 2 out of the 3 days we were there and we had 50* temps and a stiff North wind on the 3rd....but the hunting was so good that nobody noticed....The fact that we were in tons of turkeys in a downpour and stiff wind is a testament to the hard work that Skipper and his guides do. You will be in turkeys, trust me.

This is a absolutely a first class operation and I would reccomend it to anyone.
