Hunter Comments
I recommend this outfitter

This was my first trip to Kodiak hunting the famed Sitka Deer. This is not an easy hunt(very physcially demanding), as the transported, Homer Ocean, drops you off at different locations each day or so. When requested to be dropped off at a slightly different location, the captain refused. They hunt virtually the same locations week in and week out. They take all hunters and in our group of 6 we had bowhunters, rifle hunters anda pistol hunter. The photos you see on their deer page, on their web site, was taken by me, so you see we were very good hunters as a hole. My buck scored 100". The previous weeks hunters only harvested 1 buck. I would not recommend this for traditional hunters, as the bucks, even in the rut, were not calm. Since, 2002, I have been back 2 other times, not with Homer Ocean, but with other hunting partners where we did a DIY drop hunts for less than half of their cost and with more success and fun. If your doing Kodiak for the first time, I would recommend them. But it appears from initial reports that last years winter cause mass starvation like the 98-99 winter kill. AK F&G is currently doing a study to find out how bad Kodiak got hit and will be issueing a report. If it looks as bad as they suspect, your trophy opportunity will be diminished. I would consider waiting 2-4 years before going back if this is the case. If you have any questions on Kodiak Sitka deer hunts, please PM me. Jeff
