To sart with I can not say enough good things about Gary , Joe ,Michelle and Bill at Horwood Lake Lodge. Great people and they took care of everything. The food was great and Gary did everything he could to make our hunt successful. My Dad had the horse shoe this trip and saw 5 bear including a nice 235lb Boar he took with his recurve bow. I however did not see a bear all week. Gary moved us several times trying to put us on active baits. The walleye fishing was good, even though we only fished right by the lodge. The only draw back that I have to mention is that Horwood has quite a few cottages around the lake and it gets really busy around the weekends. Sunday evening and Friday evening hunts were pretty noisey with vehicle travel on the gravel roads that most baits are set up off of. The middle of the week was pretty quiet. If you are looking for a hunt were everything is taken care of for you and you can just arrive and hunt, with a good chance to take a bear this would be a great choice for you. If you are looking for a truly secluded wilderness hunt were the only noise and people you will hear is from your camp this would not be for you. That all being said I would go back again. Thanks Gary and Joe for a memorable hunt.
Matt and John came to us to provide them with a opportunity to hunt with traditional recurve bows, which they did, and we provided them with, what we thought were selected sites, with range shots that a recurve hunter would be comfortable taking. Matt had a slow week going, every night we waited and he came into camp, with "NO" reports, but now his Dad, John, came in, not once but twice, sharing his adventures in the stand with us. John had a nice sized sow, along with her cubs, come and visit him, almost right in his stand, and then immediately right after, he had another black bear come into his stand, and literally climbed the stand and sniff at John's boots. After the bear got down from John's stand, he took a shot, but was unsuccessful. We moved John off of the site that had the sow and cubs, and the very next evening, John was successful, taking a very nice boar, with a very well placed shot, right though the boar's heart, and the bear was down within 20 yards, Great Guest, Great memories, both John and Matt, we feel had a great time here at Horwood Lake Lodge, and we look forward to their planned return..
Nice Weather. No rain. A little warm Mid 70's all week.
