cochina hunting club

One might ask, why wait this long to post a review. Well I am just being honest and finally have a format to tell other hunters my good and bad adventures. John C Austin is the leader of the Cochina outfit in south TX. I booked a 4 day rifle hunt and drove out to TX. At the time I was 'between' large groups so for 3 days it was pretty much me and the guide. The guide was great and did everything HE could do to get me on a buck. He rattled, we drove the roads, we walked and stalked for days we did it all. But only saw little 110" 8 pointers, and a bunch of em. On the last afternoon of the last day we were riding around Texas style and I was in the skybox when I spotted a nice buck in a cow pasture 200 yards out. I tugged on the rope and the guide stopped the truck, 30 minutes later we were dragging my 146" buck to the truck. WHAT A STROKE OF LUCK. I finally put the pieces together when we kept coming back to the 'lodge' and there were hunters from a 'club' that had some good bucks on the skinning pole. I was told I would be hunting 100,000 acres of land. Well I only hunting a small portion of that while probably the majority of it is leased out to a true hunt club. I just met a guy last year that also met mr John Austin. They went on a turkey hunt for an agreed upon price of $700 per hunter. After my buddies group was VERy successful in that all hunters limited out on birds, John tried to UP the price on them saying that he didnt realize they would be that successful????????? My advice is to BE WARY of John Austin and the Catarina/ Cochina hunt club. I just dont think that he is being honest with his customers or his advertising. BE CAREFUL!!!
Was the outfitter notified of problems? - YES
