I do not recommend this outfitter

We were not phyisically prepared for this hunt however the Outfitter did a very poor job of trying to get animals in front of us. They may have been trying to cater to some less physically fit individuals however having taken 8 bulls with my bow on self guided hunts, I don't think they had our best interests in mind.

How many here would appreciate their guide sitting down to eat a smelly meatloaf sandwich while you are perched on the side of a hill with an arrow nocked and the best sounding bull of the hunt within 200 yards of you? I was not impressed to say the least. My guide, Ben Mummert, one of the owners, can not hear at all without his hearing aides. So, it makes all the sense in the world that he would take them out before going into the field because he can't afford to lose them. Hello!!! how the heck are you going to hear the animals? Then, when I told him that I heard a bull bugle, he had the gall to argue with me about the location. He never heard the bull in the first place. He was going on past experience (or lack thereof) on where the bull probably was. Two hours later, we worked our way over to that bull. Hmmm, he was right where I said I had heard him. It was almost like "Oh shoot, there are not supposed to be any elk up here. I don't want this customer to shoot an elk in here"

These guys acted like we were from Hollywood, CA on a first time elk hunt. Very bad experience. I would not recommend them to save my life.

Was the outfitter notified of problems? - YES

Outfitter's Response
Disagree

Recently it was brought to my attention that there was a negative review on Bowsite.com. As an outfitter and guide for 29 years, I was rather surprised to read what Brian had to say on the web. There are several different factors I would like to share with you about Brian and his hunt. On the first morning of his hunt, Brian was taking GPS coordinates every time we bugled. It was obvious to me he was doing this so that the next time he came back to the area that I guide in, he would not need me as his guide and outfitter. Brian should not put his outfitter in this position. He was not showing any respect for me or my business. Jeff and I spend a lot of time scouting to find quality hunting areas and I don't appreciate Brian thinking he is going to take GPS coordinates of all my hunting spots throughout the week for his own use in the future. This is not something I will tolerate. Brian says in the first sentence of his review that he did not get in shape for the hunt. It was pretty obvious he hadn't listened to anything we had told him. We tell all our prospective clients to get in shape and spend some time preparing before you get here. All of our references will tell people who call them, to get in shape. He obviously did not listen to them either. Brian did not share with you that he had a pair of boots that didn't fit properly and after the first mornings hunt, he didn't want to leave the pickup for three days. This will definitely effect the outcome of a hunt. He did not prepare very well in this department either. I've spent a lot of days in the mountains hunting elk and believe me, I've eaten a lot of sandwiches while I sat on a hillside. I would rather be listening to bull elk bugling in the distance than sitting there in silence wondering where the bulls were. So, I really can't understand why he didn't want to hear elk bugling while we were eating a sandwich. This should be every hunters dream. As far as my hearing, yes, I don't hear as well as I'd like to. However, I have managed pretty well over the years. The previous four clients that I personally guided prior to Brian arriving in camp last fall all shot at bull elk that I had bugled in. Three of them killed the bulls that they shot at and one had missed. The percentages are 100% shooting and 75% kill. I have the names and phone numbers for these hunters and they will verify these facts. My phone number is (406)827-4149. Maybe you should call me, Ben Mummert with Bullseye Outfitting for the whole story. My e-mail address is [email protected].
