Dennis Zadra at Lonesome Dove Outfitters had great references and I have wanted to hunt with him for a long time. It was everything I could have hoped for. Dennis has all the logisitics worked out. My guide, Zach, was excellent. We saw a dozen goats after just two days of hunting and I was successful on my third stalk at the end of the second day. You must be in excellent physical fitness to succeed with a bow on this hunt! Start preparing 6-8 months in advance! If you want your goat with a bow and you are serious about your shooting, your gear, and your physical training, I have no doubt, Lonesome Dove is the best bet for getting you archery close!
Thank you, Chris, for your recommendation. There are 3 factors that will determine approximately 95% of the success of a Mountain Goat hunt. In Order of importance they are the physical condition of the client, the shooting ability of the client, and the weather. Chris was excellent in all 3. Mountain Goats are relatively easy animals to hunt with a bow because they live in harsh terrain away from predators which makes them somewhat laid back. They are not as wary as a whitetail, and they usually hang out in the same areas year after year. Finding them is not the problem, but getting to them takes pure hard work. Chris was serious about his training and started months in advance. It paid off with a very nice trophy and a satisfying hunting experience. You get out of it what you put into it, and the physical demands of Mountain Goat hunting eventually make it very rewarding. The weather cooperated very well and greatly helped in our ability to get where we were going. Quite often we are hunting them in the rain, and a hunter should be prepared for that.
Good Luck, Chris in your future hunting endeavors! Dennis M. Zadra Lonesome Dove Outfitters, Inc.
Weather is almost always unpredictable up there, usually cold and very wet. We were fortunate to have a break in the skies for our hunt however.
