Drew unit 15 tag for NM and had a great experience with Corwin and his group. I had hunted the area before with another outfitter and knew that the quality of Elk in the area was very good. The lodge/cabin was brand new and very near his home. He and the guides knew the area well. It was everything that I had expected in a hunt. The first afternoon (actually the afternoon before my hunt was suppose to start)sitting at a water hole I had 8 elk come within 20 yards, 2 were spikes and the rest were cows/calfs. A bull was bugling close by, but did not come to the water. One of the spikes came within 5 yards of my ground blind. What a rush. The next morning my guide and myself went to our area, which he and his father had been scouting, and got right into bulls. By 09:30ish I had missed oppertunities on a 7X7 and a 6X6. The 3rd chance I connected on a 6X6 at 25 yards. The other 3 of the 4 hunters in camp had shots at 6X6 bulls. The care of my Elk was great. The butcher they went to did a great job. I had a bad experience with a Moose getting cut up in Newfoundland and was a little concerned about this elk. The meat cutter bent over backwards to get me prepared to fly my meat home. Even willing to forgo some of what I owed him (because I was running short on cash) and said that I could send him a check after I got home. My meat cutter hear at home would not do that and I've known him for 25 years. The only glitch, if you can call it that, was that I was suppose to get transportation to and from Albuquerque from the outfitter. Corwin was stretched out too far and could not be there to get me when my plane came in. So I had to rent a vehicle. He more than compensated for the rental and gas. I was grateful that I did get a rental. Due to tagging out on the first day, I got to see more of the area. I did not know anyone who had gone with this outfitter and just went by references, reviews and conversations with the outfitter. I was very happy with the outcome. Ofcourse getting a 319 elk helps.
