My goal is to add some "water holes" this upcoming season. While I do have a few little areas that hold water, I wanted to add a few spots in front of stand locations and was thinking of some TSC 150-300gal stock tanks. Would love to swale some water into them partially submerged to limit mud/midge issues.
Does anyone have any experience or thoughts with these or the proceeding?

If your intent is to fill them when thier dry with a quad, etc. don’t put them by your stand sites. Extra human intrusion is not worth it. Gets some corrugated roofing and build a frame, angled down like a roof draining into a gutter system to the tank. It will fill fuller when it rains then just letting the rain get at it. Again- waterholes that need to be filled are stand killers for mature bucks. Not worth the intrusion

We dig small ponds next to each stand and have very good success doing this. We are drier in MO than some other areas and often have lengthy period of drought. I honestly wouldn’t use a tank. I’d just hire someone to dig a small waterhole type setup.

I do half barrels ( plastic ) Rarely have to fill them unless you go many many weeks without rain Smaller scale but easy to dig in and much easier to get that first fill

Have a 50 gallon tractor supply tank. This is right behind the house at 6500 ft AZ. Mule deer does hit every morning when it is dry. Only bucks I see are spikes and forks until the rut and then there will be a buck or two with the does for about 2 weeks.

I lived in TX for 30+years. We used a bat-winged rain water guzzler in our areas.
A pair of 6x6 bat-wings would fill a 300 gallon Pila during a rainstorm. We'd truck water using a food grade poly-tote to bulk deliver water during dry periods.

I have a couple. Dig them in slightly below ground level on a downslope if you have one. Haven’t filled mine in 12 years (WI so we get good rain). I put them in the deer’s natural movement from bedding to feeding. They stop at them going out and coming back. Bucks hit them during the rut frequently. Only issue is shoveling out the leaves every couple of years.

don't worry about intrusion unless you are driving through your main property every few days to fill.Once a month won't be an issue but think about ease of access anyway, not just for filling but for hunting if you have stand site there.
