I am going to try the throw and mow method on two separate 1 acre plots. One is in buckwheat and the other is in oats.
I am going to hand cast radishes and winfred brassica into each plot and then us a shredder to mow the buckwheat and oats.
I have two 80%+ rain events predicted on 8-6-24 and 8-8- 24.
My question: Does it hurt the germination rate if I broadcast the seed and mow 3-4 days before the rain events when the temperatures are supposed to be close to 100 degrees. Do I need to worry about the seed getting too hot/dry? The oats are matured so not a lot of moisture in those stems. The buckwheat is flowering and looks green yet, so those stems should have some moisture.

I’d think you’d be fine since the seed will get covered with the mowed fodder. If you’re really concerned just do it the 5th.

Your seed will be fine. Might get some predation from mice and birds if it sits too long, but a few days won't matter much. Biggest danger in my opinion for this time of yr is getting hot and dry right after germination, thus killing the sprouted plants. Where I live we might get 2 rains in a week, but then we'd get 6wks without a rain.
Good luck!
