I want to take this time to thank Chris for another fantastic hunt at Pine Acres. This was my fourth year in a row hunting at Pine Acres and each hunt has been spectacular. My wife has joined me three out of the four years and the past two years my now nine year old daughter has come along as well. Chris is very accommodating and sets comfortable double ladder stands for my daughter and I to sit together in. Even though Chris and Joe are extremely busy and always prepping to help all the hunters in camp, they both take time to visit and make it a very family friendly environment.
Last year we had a huge bear hitting our bait but only in the am. We had to get up at 0230 to be in the stand before sunrise. It paid off with a great encounter that ended with me rushing a 20 yard shot and missing the bear. After a year of reliving that opportunity in my head way to often, Chris allowed us to hunt that same bait as last year in hopes of redeeming ourselves.
On the 3rd night of the hunt " Big Daddy" as my daughter called him, came into the bait. This time I controlled the situation. My arrow was on target and the bear bolted and crashed through the brush.
Chris and Joe wait in the area around sunset to help the hunters track and recover bears if needed. We met up and started tracking my bear. Blood was nonexistent, but we found my arrow about 25 yards into the track. Soon Joe found a speck of blood. I was so worried we would not find this bear I could not concentrate on tracking. Joe continued to find a speck of blood here and there. Finally Chris says, "Hey Curt", I reply "What". "You shot a big bear" he says.
I gave them both a big man hug and thanked them for finding my bear. Joe made quick work of field dressing. Then the real work started. Several hunters from camp joined in and helped get the bear out to the road where we loaded it up and headed back to camp.
Chris's hunts are Semi Guided. Some of the grunt work is up to the hunter. I thoroughly enjoy that part of the hunt and to tell the truth I would not be able to afford a fully guided hunt. Chris and Joe are very helpful and actually assist a lot more than I would have expected.
Thanks again to the Pine Acres team I will see you next year.
