This was our fourth hunt with Pennyrile Outfitters, but the first time hunting the rut. Dan and Nancy Kendall, your hosts at Pennyrile, are the nicest, most accommodating folks that you will ever meet. Dan keeps the numbers in camp limited to ensure a very personal experience for every hunter. This is NOT a high volume outfit....The food is home-style country cooking and there is plenty of it... The accommodations are very well-appointed cabins that are clean and have all the comforts of home.
Dan is one of the best when it comes to placing and hiding stands. I have never seen an outfitter put so much effort into studying the terrain to put each stand in the optimal location. He has tree stands, ground blinds, and shooting houses for every possible weather condition and more locations than you can possibly hunt in a lifetime. Most of the ladder and hang on stands are Millenniums which are the most comfortable stand out there. You can sit all day in comfort which is very important to being able to put the time in.
My wife and one other hunter in camp took their bucks within the first two days. All the other hunters had opportunity at shooter bucks including myself on the first evening. I had a heavy 150 class buck at 18 yards in front of my stand the first evening. Unfortunately he busted off his G2 and G3 on the left beam and I decided to pass.
Every hunter in camp saw good numbers of deer every sit, and I personally saw more bucks than I see in 5 seasons hunting my Georgia farm.... If you are looking to shoot the first buck you see, this is not the outfitter for you. However, if you are willing to be selective and able to hold out for a truly mature animal, Dan has some great trophy quality bucks on his farms. You have the potential for a really spectacular Western Kentucky giant!
Pennyrile is one of the best all-around hunting values that I have found for a quality outfitted whitetail hunt. We are already booked again for the same week next year... Hopefully it will be my turn to arrow one...
