This was my first outfitter hunt(and out of state hunt) after 25 years of bowhunting on my own. I didn't really know what to expect, so hopefully this helps guys that were on the fence like me about going out of state. I'll try and make it short and sweet. Camps were split in two on my week, there were two lodges, I didn't stay at the main lodge, didn't really care, I was there to hunt. My stay was fine. Since I wasn't at the main lodge, I didn't have the normal cook, we had food catered everyday and it was good. The hunt...my first two days were fairly slow, I did see around 10 deer per day, all 1.5 year old bucks and does. The guides realized after 2.5 days on the same farm, it just wasn't happening so I moved. I passed an opportunity on a 130" 8 point on day three on the first farm I moved to. So, it came down to the last day for me, and I was moved to another farm, which was absolutely torn up with buck sign. Kind of wished I had been on this farm from the beginning, but it only takes one time. My last morning I shot a heavy 140" chocolate racked buck, but unfortunately for me, I shot a couple inches too far back and after an intense search, I was unable to recover the deer. Everyone went out of their way on the tracking job, so hats off to the guides...I made the decision not to stop this buck while he was walking, and I paid the price and take total responsibility. All in all, the farms are beautiful and some nice deer were taken while I was there. Mark runs a good camp, and genuinely wants everyone there to kill a nice buck. I am definitely going back next November to redeem myself.
