OUTFITTER
We are hunting with Cimarron River Outfitters owned by Kent and Clay Jarnagin. It's pretty tough to get an open slot at CRO but if you do, you will experience one incredible Kansas Bowhunt!

Day 1
For our 2024 hunt Matt Devoe, Greg Hammell and I all drew Kansas tags. We had a tough hunt last year but we're optimistic about this hunt. We will post a hunt update at least every day but I'm also going to try to post two updates; one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
For my first morning hunt I hunted a stand we call the Tree Belt. It had rained a lot the last few days and that brought in a cold front. It was windy and cold this morning which was perfect after last week's weather which was unseasonably warm. However, it was slow this morning. I saw a small 2.5 year old 8 point with his left beam snapped off at the skull. I also saw one fawn and two spikes. Matt, and Greg had more action, but no shooters. I like the weather forecast for the rest of the week, no real cold weather but no real hot weather either.
For the afternoon hunt I hunted the Condo which is a lone Cottonwood tree in the middle of a 500 acre CRP field. I love this stand because you get quite a show. You can see for thousands of yards in every direction. The stand did not disappoint. A line of does headed into my stand and was soon followed by a young buck.
For the next two hours I saw 10 bucks and 10 does. The young bucks were chasing hard, the older bucks were not quite switched on yet, but they are close. One of the bucks was a nice 8, maybe 135" and I could have easily shot him. Too small for me, but next year he may be in trouble.
While I glassed several bucks, Matt and I got a text from Greg. "BBD!" He had made a perfect shot on a 13 point with trash and kickers and it died withing 40 yards. We couldn't wait to see it. When we got back we congratulated Greg on a super buck!

Our hunt takes place in South Central Kansas in Comanche County which is down near the Oklahoma Border. The habitat is a mix of prairie, treebelts, river bottoms, and large agricultural fields. Prime Whitetail habitat.
