Wednesday 12/30/98

With Kevin flying in on Thursday we packed up the trucks and hunted down the road to Boise. We loaded up the cat, snowmobiles, and dogs then headed out. This was the first day we saw blue skies and the temperature had risen into the high thirties. We saw a few cat tracks on the way down but most were snowed in and old.

The scenery was just magnificent in this high mountain area.

Magnificent country

On our way out we passed a reservoir where several deer and elk had attempted to swim across. The tracks and the ice told the story of a harsh lesson for this animal.

Paths show that some made it and some didn't

You can see in this picture above where an elk or deer broke through the thin ice and swam across. The ice was not thick enough to support the animals' weight but thick enough to completely exhaust the animal till it drowned.

Tomorrow we will pick up Kevin and will be back hunting on New Years' day.
