DAY 2 |
|
Sunday Morning
The forecast called for another extremely hot day and they were correct. With temps in the 90's today there was no movement anywhere. We did see some spikes on a distant mountain but that was it. We called it quits early and headed back to the hotel. Sunday Afternoon It was in the mid nineties by 3PM and with no elk bedded we were not very optimistic. But we made the best of it and glassed from a high vantage point all afternoon. From that point Wes spotted a huge bull pushing 340-350. He was off of the property but still in the neighborhood. We also spotted the big herd, they are 5 miles to the West of our property. The good news is they are also in the neighborhood, the bad news is they looked pretty content where they were. We really need a weather change. Nothing is moving and there is absolutely no rut activity at all. It has been in the nineties for three days straight. Forecast calls for cooler temps for the next few days in the 80's. I can't believe I am looking forward to temps in the mid 80's? This is always the risk of going opening week here but I really do love to hunt this place. This is a real hunt with great people. They also have huge bulls here. All we need is the right combination of weather and luck, just like last year.
