Hunter Comments
I recommend this outfitter

I went to Africa to celebrate my retirement and chose to hunt over my 63rd birthday. I have a bum left elbow so stopped bowhunting a decade ago but was looking for a way to not use bang bang for the hunt. Dries Visser allows crossbow hunting along with archery options. I used their crossbow on this hunt. I had only used a crossbow on one hunt over a decade ago which was to hunt alligators in Florida using a swamp boat with the big fan to navigate shallow waters.

Was a fantastic shoot/hunt mostly from blinds designed specifically for archers. I have done solo high-mountain hunts on public lands and this was not that sort of hunt though all the animals I encountered were born in the bush as descendants from animals released decades ago as the immense property converted from being a cattle ranch. The game population is self-sustaining so and are not comfortable around people so are skittish with even a whiff of human scent.

I harvested a Cape buffalo, kudu, sable, impala, gemsbok/oryx, blesbuck, nyala and blue wildebeest. My goal for Cape buffalo and impala were for very mature animals but otherwise was focused on horns that caught my attention. Some species were seen daily while others only on one or two days of the two-week hunt. I hunted from a blind, stalked on foot through the bush and drove roads looking for fresh tracks to then follow into the bush. The bush is very thick on some portions of the property so I am confident there are animals which go months or even years without being seen by a hunter.

So many memories or seeing animals, birds and reptiles along with the various vegetation plus evenings around the campfire pit after some amazing meals including a homemade birthday cake for me on my 63rd. You do not need to be in great shape to be successful on this adventure as the land is mostly flat terrain. Highly recommend Dries Visser.

Weather Comments:
The weather is expected to be around 85F in late April into early May when I was on this hunt. Was actually over 90F most days. Zero rain fell. Winds were 25mph with stronger gusts on one day which seemed to keep the animals inside the bush.
