Went hunting with this outfitter Sept 2022 and when we called Ray in 2021 and asked what was the best week...he told us the 2nd week of September....when we got there ALL of his guides said they do not do very well the 2nd week and that Ray was just "trying to sell hunts." Ray always has an adult beverage in his hand and walking through camp while bragging about how wealthy he is which is very annoying for the hunters to hear over and over. He said he has 100,000 acres to hunt which is not true as of the 4 spots we hunted 3 of them were very small parcels with rancher fences dividing them. One of the neighboring ranchers actually drove his 4x4 approx 50 yards from me while I was on an evening hunt sitting by a water hole..and did the same thing to another hunter which wasted days of our hunts. I texted my assigned guide and he saw this happen through his binoculars and told me to get up and move to where another hunter was (mainly cause the parcel was so small there was not alot of areas for us to spread out.) when brought to Rays attention, he could care less. We asked if we could hunt another parcel that other hunters in camp were not on and that request was met with Ray being abrasive towards us. Our guide eventually worked it out with the head guide but it seemed like they had to hide where we were going from Ray because he treats them so poorly and most staff seemed in constant fear of their jobs. Ray will falsify his success/opportunity rate and many hunters in camp witnessed him writing on his dry erase board that a hunter got a 4x3 elk when what he killed was a 1x1 spike. He does this so when other hunters come to camp they think there is high success when there 100% is not. This unethical outfitter is only out for your money and could care less about how disgusting the camp is (flies all over the food, spiders and other bugs in the showers, filthy bedding, and the exterior is in disarray. I feel bad for his staff as they ALL talk poorly about Ray when he is not around but because there are not a lot of jobs in Chama.....they are nice to his face. I would 100% save your money and NOT hunt with this lying outfitter as he only cares about your money and when you show up for your hunt, his attitude drastically changes.
Was the outfitter notified of problems? - YES
Dear Bowsite,
Mike Constantine is the type of client who can never be satisfied. He filled out an evaluation sheet that I personally hand out all my hunters when I do my safety talk before we hunt.
After the hunt Mike filled out his evaluation sheet. I have attached for everyone’s review. That week Sept. 8-13 I had 2 camps with a total of 16 clients. Every client rebooked, even Mike !!! After a discussion with Head Guide, Mike’s guide and our chef / Camp Mgr. we all thought Mike was a bad fit for our Outfit.
I contracted Mike’s hunting partner Jason and let him know our decision. He said he would still love to come back and would bring another hunting friend. I then texted Mike and told him of my finite decision. I have Outfitted 35 years with over 12,000 clients in 3 continents. When I get clients like Mike who I see as a bad fit. I refuse to rebook them, to avoid an unpleasant experience in the future. My take on this hunter he is not a bow hunter, but rather a hunter who hunts with a bow. When his partner killed his bull he even yelled at Jason my guide said. I suggested to Mike that he should take up rifle hunting as he needs to kill to be fulfilled. I believe I have made my point and consider this matter closed.
Respectfully, Ray Milligan
Weather was cool in the mornings and some rain with cool temps in the evening
