I do not recommend this outfitter

I contacted Chad for two of us for an elk & mule deer back country and one guy for mule deer and black bear for the 2021 season. Camp is a nice place and the house staff were friendly and welcoming.

We hunted on logging roads from a truck for elk and mule deer, aprox the same 3 miles of logging cuts, never getting in the bush. I wouldn’t call that’s a back country hunt! We scouted and tried to locate elk for 6 days with zero success of seeing or hearing a bull elk. We also tried to locate mule deer bucks during spare time with no luck.

Day 6 we located one bull elk crossing a ridge but he was too young to make a move on with the 6 point requirements.

My frustration with Savage comes into play because when booking this trip I asked for back country. Chad’s response was we go where the elk are and we will do anything to get you on the elk we have jet boats and horses. The whole week we spent our time trying to locate animals from a truck and glassing! learning no pre-scouting was done.

On Chad’s web site he boost a 100% success rate on mule deer (if your not to picky on size) and he also says 90-100% on elk. Yet two of us never had one true encounter with an elk.

After the trip I inquired about a discounted rate from such a bust trip, and Chad’s offer was a free mule deer tag and that’s it nothing on the trip as a whole. Which too me doesn’t seem a fair trade off.

I wouldn’t recommend going with Savage Encounters for elk or mule deer. Moose and big horn sheep seem to be better luck based on others I talked to while there.

I would recommend there guide Stacey anytime! He The worked his ass off and tried to get us on the elk. Amazing and made you feel like a friend by the end of the trip.
