This report is for Schulz Outfitters based out of Buckeye, Arizona. My hunt, a five-day mule deer bow hunt took place on public land (entirely in Hunt Unit 8 near Williams, Arizona). The owners, Kurt and Stacy Shulz, are nothing short of amazing. Both are kind, courteous, and gracious hosts. I was made to feel at home right from the very beginning of the hunt. Because the hunt was on public land, the Schulz's set up camp on public land in a very scenic part of the state. There were a total of four hunters in camp. Each hunter had his tent complete with electrical power. Mrs. Schulz pretty much took care of managing all aspects of camp life, including preparing/cooking all of our evening meals. All of the meals (complete with dessert) were first-rate. If a hunter went away hungry, it was his/her fault. The Schulz's provided an endless supply of beverages to include soda, water, Gator Aide, etc. The game plan for my hunt was to set up at various water stations and ambush the deer as they came in to drink. Because of the prevailing temperatures during my hunt (average temp during the day was 100 degrees Fahrenheit), this hunting strategy seemed to me to make the most sense. The option to spot and stalk was also tried; however, this option produced negative. I want to point out there were two prevailing conditions that significantly impacted the outcome of my hunt, hotter than expected weather conditions and extreme hunting pressure. My guide, Mr. Logan Daoust, is a very courteous and polite young man. Logan met me at the airport (Note: taking hunters to/from the Phoenix Sky Harbor airport is part of the service that this outfitter provides), and from there, it was straight to deer camp. Logan worked very hard during our week together to put me on a shooter buck. Thank you, Logan, for all of your hard work. I do appreciate you. In conclusion, it is with my highest endorsement that I recommend Schulz Outfitters to anyone wanting to hunt mule deer in Arizona. The folks are friendly, chow is excellent, and the price for the hunt is what I consider to be reasonable.
