I have had the good fortune of hunting with Willie many times. We have hunted successfully several times in Alaska for black and brown bears. He has guided me on many South Dakota deer hunts as well. Many of these hunts were with a gun but I have recently picked up the bow. Hunting with a bow with Willie the last few years has highlighted his hunting skill even more. The open terrain in South Dakota allows the glassing and patterning of deer much more than the typical stand hunting of Missouri. I find that tremendously exciting! Every day will have a different approach. Sometimes is was a search, location and stalk for a buck, which is an absolute blast by the way, or it is a stand in a location that will allow a "close encounter". On the first morning, Willie was able to sneak us close in to a large buck but due to the "luck" of hunting and there being two other bucks the situation did not allow a shot. Every day had the opportunity that if the "hunter luck" was a little different then a nice trophy could have been taken. Back to the big buck and the last day of the hunt, the buck was spotted bedded down in the afternoon. I was set up in an ambush position but within 1 hour of dark the wind shifted 180 degrees. I had a blast and look forward to this again soon!!
I first guided Victor in Alaska. Since then we’ve enjoyed our time together hunting Alaska several times and South Dakota several times, I think about 15 times. He almost always brings his wife Rhonda to hunt also. We’re usually successful bagging a great trophy and we are always successful in having a great time. I always look forward to guiding Victor because he has a thrill for adventure, great ethics and a passion for the sport of hunting. That makes it very easy for me to help him to be successful. I’m lucky to guide hunters and make my living with hunters as fun and as dedicated to the sport as Victor. Victor has great skills and a great attitude.
Good fall weather, cool
