Gunson Guiding and Outfitting is the new owner of K&L Outfitters, Dorintosh Saskatchewan. While our group was the first to hunt under the Gunson Guiding and Outfitting name, little has changed from when Ken and Linda owned/operated the business; especially since Ken and Linda are still actively present and managing the operations. That said, I'll explain the hunt from it's start.
Arrival to camp was uneventful, the Lodge was in it's typical pristine condition, with rooms 'hunter-guest ready', and an archery range pre-set for our enjoyment. With respect to accommodations, the facility is equipped with climate control and WIFI is available for everyone's use.
Food: Linda is an amazing cook. Hunters were provided 3 meals a day, breakfast varied from bacon/eggs/potatoes, to pancakes/sausafe, French toast and sausage etc. Lunch was the highlight of the day and served as the main meal with a light supper (homemade soup/sandwich)served when we came back from each hunt.
Quantity of Animals: Everyone saw multiple bears every day. Our 'Camp Rookie' took a nice boar on Day 1 that tipped the scale at 262#, nice way to begin the week. My wife took a 200#+ sow on Day 3 with a 25 yard shot and a very short blood trail. , with another hunter taking a young colored sow that same evening. I took a 6' 286# boar that should make book on Day 4 with an 8 yard shot. One hunter failed to connect, but only because he didn't see a bear bigger than what he'd taken previously.
Quality of Animals: All bears taken were healthy, fat and had hides that were in good condition (though mine was a rubbed on it's rump).
Logistics: Camp gear was in top notch condition. Hunts start at the 'appropriate or appointed time'. Transport to stands is by truck supplemented by ATV.
Tropny care: Top Notch. Jake, Ken and the staff do an incredible job of skinning, freezing and wrapping trophies to prevent damage.
Would I recommend G G Outfitting? Youbetcha. Since all their business has been 'repeat' clients up til the 'sale', I think the biggest issue will be 'waiting lists'.
None to date. If you are the outfitter please email us.
