Had an excellent hunt here with Dan and his crew at Rocking R. The camp and equipment are first rate, and all of his guides were some of the best. The lodge and food? Just ridiculously nice. Could have a good time here without hunting :) My guide Rob was outstanding and knew what he was doing, always on time, and cared more about the kill than I did. Had two up close and personal encounters with great bulls for this area and even got drawn back at less than 30 on a beauty....but had two branches in the way and I though the release would be too risky. Let down and the wind ended the encounter. A cow was in the way for my other opportunity. It was a strange week for rutting activity, but there are plenty of private land elk in a beautiful place with good people who know what they are doing. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Had a great week hunting with Steve and the rest of the group. A bunch of really great guys. Hopefully we are fortunate to hang out with these guys again sometime soon.
We saw it all from sunshine and pleasant to high wind, rain and snow. Just like you would expect in the high country.
