I recommend this hunt to anybody looking for a change of "scenery" with regard to baited hunts or wanting to try a different style of hunting bears. Its fast paced and you get to experience 3 completely different styles of hunting all in one hunt.
The hound hunting is fast paced and what Doug is actually known for - the dogs are well trained and experienced. Each tree'd bear is a new experience and may take you 300 yards from the road or 2 miles.
You hunt with the hounds from morning until late afternoon when you switch to spot and stalk style hunting, or (my favorite) predator calling while stalking.
I was after a LARGE bear 7'/19" and had no problem going home empty handed if I did not see one. I saw quite a few bears with the hounds one nice chocolate probably 18" plus but we did not think he would be much over 6' squared (I already had a larger chocolate), so I passed.
Later on a spot and stalk we saw a GIANT - long story short Doug predator called - the bear came in - I made a poor choice with respect to shot placement. We did not recover bear but not for lack of trying. The bear lived to fight another day. Doug did his job - I did not.
The scenery (mountains) are breath taking, the food is great, and you have a log cabin on the premises all to yourself.
