Twelve day hunt for moose and bear. Bear presence in area hunted is largely dependent on presence of wild berries. Most berries were gone by date of hunt. There were occasional patches of blueberries, partridge berries and mish berries, enough to hold bears for a while as they passed through the area. Saw bears on 5 days of 12 hunted. First bear was one mile away on afternoon of the first day. After an hour walk to where he had been, we did see him for another hour and he was another mile away. Did not try again for him. Next bear was on day 7. It was almost a mile away but was feeding on berries. Another hour hike, wind was right and took the lone sow. Spotted lone large bears each of next three days but stalks were unsuccessful and did not result in a shot opportunity. Twice primarily due to no cover and no wind to hide noise from stalking in high bushes. The other time a moose moved up wind spooking the bear as we waited for an opportunity to get closer.
None to date. If you are the outfitter please email us.
Actually, not windy enough on the days that we stalked large boars. No wind at all. Would have preferred windier conditions and usually have those in Newfoundland.
