Hunter Comments
I recommend this outfitter

Alan Carter ran a great hunt for my group of four. We selected the semi-guided hunt as we had a few previous elk hunts on our own in Colorado. Jeremy our guide took us around the hunting territory for the first two days and called a bull into bow range both days. He also spent a day taking us to new territory later in the week, and was always showing us different elk sign, tips on calling and setting up, and pointing out other good spots. The four of us split into pairs for our self-guided hunt days, and saw elk every day, with everyone getting at least one chance during the week to have a legal bull in bow range. Bulls bugled every day. Day 5 it finally came together for my son and I, we had three Bulls bugling around us and one finally came in the open at 45 yards, and I shot the nice 6x6 bull. A second bull continued bugling and came in to my son while we were waiting to track the first bull, but a tree intercepted his arrow on the way to a nice 5x5, or we would have had an elk double in 45 minutes. Alan's team of guides and mules fought their way into the rugged valley to pack out the elk with us. Being in good physical condition (at least for eastern flatlanders) helped us to cover a lot of territory to find more animals, but a less fit older fully guided hunter in camp had elk action most every day close to camp. We never saw another hunter in 6 days of hunting a wide range. Alan and his team treated us fantastic, constantly making sure we had what we needed to be successful and help us with our daily hunt strategy. The camp cook had great meals prepared morning and night and had lunches laid out for our packs before we left camp in the dark every morning. Very nice tents, woodstoves were lit by the camp jack at wake up each morning so the tent was warm when you rolled out of sleeping bag for breakfast. I would highly recommend this hunt, guided or self-guided if you have some experience and want a place with a lot of elk , beautiful country, and an outfitter that takes care of everything. My group Is already booked to return in 2015.
