Hunter Comments
I recommend this outfitter

4 out of 5 ain't bad. This was my fifth year hunting with Mike at the Wide Rack, but it was my first year at the J camp. The first day between 6 hunters we saw 26 bucks and 30 does. 7 were shooter class bucks. 1 was harvested and 3 were passed on. I had a buck that if he had turned right instead of left he was getting an arrow, but never had a shot opportunity. Later that morning I saw a big buck tending a doe at 130 yards, but she decided to go a different direction. That afternoon the winds blew like crazy and for the rest of the week we had wind, rain, warmer temps or fog. Even with the bad weather I still saw deer every sit. On Tuesday morning I had a buck come in to 10 yards before daylight, and I could see the big body and his antlers where white so I knew he was a good deer. He left before light and walked by another hunter who got a good look and confirmed he was a shooter. I spent the majority of my time hunting the poplar stand where Mike had multiple mature deer on camera. Its always a thrill to be in the living room of a deer like the one he calls hammer. I included a picture of hammers sheds from last year, but unfortunately hammer did not grace me with his presence while I was on stand. The only thing that was tough for me was at the J camp you are not allowed to shoot doe's. This was the first year of the 5 I have hunted the Wide Rack that doe's were off the menu and for a Mississippi boy in such a target rich environment this was a challenge. The accommodations were nice, and the Red Roof inn in Jackson was very comfortable. Overall it was a totally different experience than the main camp. Todd and Travis do a great job at the J camp. I did miss the main camp experience (but my own bathroom was a serious bonus) and I missed getting to talk with Mikes wife Elena and really missed her cooking. This was my first year without a shot opportunity, but it had nothing to do with stands or the property. I believe it was related to the weather being so crazy. I'm not sure if the deer sightings from the rest of the week combined would equal what we saw the first day. All in all another great Wide Rack adventure to add to my memories and alot of thoughts to stir the desire to return again someday. I believe Mike is one of the, if not the best outfitter in the business. He is a man of integrity, and honor and always does his best to satisfy his clients. Todd and Travis both hold Mikes standards for J camp so you cant go wrong at either place. I am honored to call Mike a friend and a brother in the Lord. Until next time, and Mike please pray about the earn a doe program for us Mississippi boy's I proposed, or at least consider the first annual Wide Rack Mississippi Boys Doe Patrol weekend extravaganza!:)I am sure Muzzy will sponsor it! If your considering a trip you cant go wrong at the Wide Rack the only thing Mike cant guarantee is the weather and free ranging whitetails, but everything else he will give you 100% to try to satisfy!

Outfitter's Response

Dan, Thank You for your kind words about us here at Wide Rack Outfitters! We always look forward to your return! We have been blessed with some great hunts this season! And it appears we have an even better crop of deer coming on for the future! QDMA is working here! So with a little more predator control and a strong fawn crop this Spring I just might have to turn you loose on culling a few doe! GBTA! Mike Connett, Wide Rack Outfitters
